Photography

Photography is a key marketing tool to highlight our diverse and dynamic community while also documenting important historical moments at Loyola University Chicago. We strive to capture images that are authentic, emotional, energetic, and vibrant.

Authentic

The foundation of our photography style uses a documentary-style approach to capture real, unposed moments, both big and small. This authentic approach conveys honesty and transparency to our audiences and stands apart from generic stock imagery.

Emotional

Our images convey intimacy and move audiences to action, helping connect to subjects or subject matter that align with our University mission and goals.

Energetic

Capturing the natural energy of campus life and major University events conveys our Rambler pride and our University mission in action.

Vibrant

Our photographic style is bright, clean, warm, and colorful to create images that stand out.

Metadata and Keywords

Metadata plays an important part in our photo storage process. UMC uses Tag Tree and integration to Photo Mechanic to help aid these efforts. Freelance photographers should use software like Photo Mechanic or Lightroom to add keywords and captions to each submitted image. If using Photo Mechanic, please download our keyword tree. All captions should be written in AP Style to include who, what, when, where, and why.

File Sharing / Photoshelter

University photos are organized and stored on the digital platform PhotoShelter. For archival purposes, freelance photographers should upload their final selects as .dng files (with the matching .xmp files for each image).

For access to the University Image Library, please submit your name, title, and department to our University photographer.
